Problem

MiCacao is a React Native wallet that records cocoa traceability on a blockchain, to comply with the EU deforestation regulation (EUDR). The project had no Portuguese onboarding material and requires React Native, TypeScript and Verus at the same time.

Solution

A fork for study, with a Portuguese immersion guide: a 13-working-day plan with one deliverable per day, self-checks and an ES6, TypeScript and JSX cheat sheet focused on the real parts of the code. The application code is not Edson's.

Technical decisions

  1. 01

    No deliverable, no next step

Each day of the guide ends with something that can be checked. The goal is to prove what was learned, not just read.

  2. 02

Start with the real build problems

The first exercises are the project's known build failures (old Gradle dependencies, WASM in transaction signing), because that is where a new contributor gets stuck.

No publishable screens: the system needs real data to run or is no longer online.

SDGs

  • SDG 15 · Life on Landprimary

Cocoa traceability on a blockchain exists to comply with the EU deforestation regulation (EUDR): every batch must prove it does not come from deforested areas.

  • SDG 2 · Zero Hungercomplementary

Proof of origin links cocoa farmers to markets that increasingly require traced, deforestation-free supply chains.
